Pierre Fontenelle & Max Charue

Sun, 13 Jun 2027 · 16:00
Sint-Rochuskapel, Mariadal, Hoegaarden
Free
String and percussion explore Pierre Fontenelle and Max Charue the interface between cello and percussion. The concert brings together music in which sound arises from touch, movement, and material, and in which the boundary between melody and rhythm constantly shifts. What connects these two instruments is not only their physical proximity, but also their ability to react, contradict, and challenge each other. The program moves freely between Bach and contemporary compositions. Familiar music appears in a new guise, while recent works play with timbre, rhythm, and unexpected sound sources. Percussion is not limited here to classical instruments, but also appears in everyday materials, which are given their own place within the musical whole. The cello remains a recognizable voice, sometimes supporting, sometimes searching, always in dialogue. Between string and percussion is a concert in which attention to sound and curiosity about form come together. Fontenelle and Charue show how music can arise in the space between instruments, between tradition and experiment, and how new tensions and meanings become visible precisely there. Programma Johann Sebastian Bach / Charles Gounod – Ave Maria (arr. for cello and vibraphone) Caroline Shaw – In manus tuas, for cello solo Andrea Casarrubios – Speechless, for cello, marimba, vibraphone, and cymbals Caroline Shaw – Boris Kerner, for cello and flower pots Max Charue – Abasourdi, for cello and credit cards Andrea Casarrubios – SEVEN for cello solo Johann Sebastian.
