Three university sites: guided walk along past and future

Discover during a guided walk how the Oude Gevangenis, the Refuge House/Herkenrode Barracks, and the Begijnhof grew from historic heritage sites into inspiring places for education, meeting, and creativity. With the Begijnhof, UHasselt gained a third historic landmark in the heart of Hasselt. Together with the Refuge House of the Abdij van Herkenrode and the Oude Gevangenis, the Begijnhof is getting a new future. Buildings that remained closed for a long time are becoming open houses that invite interaction. And the public space around it is being transformed into a green oasis, a square within a residential environment. A small place of rest, reflection, and interaction between residents, students, and visitors. Passageways connect the different parts of the city with each other and thus make them more readable for visitors. Unique new construction volumes help determine the new skyline of the city. Practical info: Guided walk of 1.5 hours along three university sites: the Oude Gevangenis, the Refuge House/Herkenrode Barracks, and the Begijnhof. Departure at Het Stadsmus (Garden Café). Accessibility: For the walk along the three sites, we use audio headsets (earpieces). The number of places is limited to 30 participants per guided walk. Register in advance to be sure of a place.
