Did you know that there are 23 species of bats living in Belgium? Some bats live in houses, caves, or abandoned forts, others in hollow tree trunks. Thus, every species has its favorite spot. There are quite a few misunderstandings about the bat, which is why many people are still wrongly afraid of them. Come and learn more about these mammals this evening.
Het Fort van Merksem forms an important foraging area for bats.
We start the evening with a short explanation about our bats and around sunset we will take out our bat detector and can thus locate the bats.
We follow the red and blue routes along the fort moat.
The common pipistrelles are there first. A little later in the evening, the serotine bats also emerge. And with some luck, we can find the Daubenton's bats on the fort moat as soon as it is completely dark.
This activity is extremely suitable for children who do not like to go to sleep early.
