Radio Poupoule - I SOLISTI & Vlaams Radiokoor conducted by Bart Van Reyn & Filip Jordens & Maai

This music theatre performance brings a piece of radio history to Hasselt, as if the theatre hall were briefly a Flagey studio, the natural habitat of the Radio Choir. In 1943, an aircraft dropped thousands of copies of Paul Éluard's poem Liberté over occupied France. Francis Poulenc based his cantata Figure humaine on this, a powerful ode to liberation. In 1946, the predecessor of the Vlaams Radiokoor premiered this cantata during a special broadcast on the 'Sender Brüssel', the then NIR, which had just been liberated from the Nazis. Exactly 80 years later, Filip Jordens (known for Hommage à Brel, which was at CCHA twice), surrounded by the musicians of I SOLISTI and the Vlaams Radiokoor (see also their Christmas concert on Dec 17, 26), steps into the shoes of special guest Francis Poulenc, 'Poupoule' to his friends. Maaike Cafmeyer guides the conversation as an inspired presenter.
