Opera Encore 2027: Silent Night

Based on the true Christmas truce of 1914, Silent Night tells the moving story of soldiers who unexpectedly lay down their arms during the Eerste Wereldoorlog to celebrate Christmas together. This modern opera by Kevin Puts combines poignant human emotions with a cinematic score that takes you straight to the battlefields of the Westelijk Front. This moving opera about humanity in inhumane circumstances, on a libretto by Mark Campbell based on the film Joyeux Noël, has been praised worldwide since its premiere in 2011. Regisseur James Robinson brings the audience directly to the battlefields of the Westelijk Front.\r\nWith, among others, soprano Elza van den Heever, tenors Ben Bliss and Rolando Villazón, Dalia Stasevska conducts live from the Metropolitan Opera.
