The Montvales

The Montvales is a fantastic bluegrassy ladies duo that reminds of Sierra Ferrell, I'm With Her, Ruth Moody and The Wailin’ Jennies. Their new album appeared in the spring of 2025 on the label Free Dirt, which also houses names such as Caleb Klauder & Reeb Willms, Willi Carlisle and Liv Greene. Together the ladies sound heavenly, while they know how to accompany themselves skillfully on all kinds of string instruments. Their music is inspired by the long tradition of radical country and folk artists. In addition, best friends Sally Buice and Molly Rochelson use their passion for literature to tell stories on their new album, this with as a common thread: the current global tensions. The twelve introspective, thematically and sonically layered songs of the album describe a transforming pilgrimage through an inextricably connected world. A woman who desperately tries to save her community from a gas pipeline in ‘Plains of Ohio’, a pious grandmother who travels to Yugoslavia in search of the Maagd Maria in ‘Our Lady’ and a difficult outsider of a Bible school in ‘Loud and Clear’ are just a few of the archetypes that listeners encounter. The latest album of The Montvales was again produced by Mike Eli LoPinto (Chris Stapleton, Emily Nenni), who was also responsible for their acclaimed second album, ‘Born Strangers’ from 2024.
