Het Walter Boeykens Festival is celebrating its 29 th edition. It will once again be a celebration where classical reaches out to jazz and pop. Where instrumental and vocal are alternating ingredients. And where surprising guest artists assist the Walter Boeykens Ensemble, led by clarinetist Anne Boeykens, for a unique musical trip. Het Walter Boeykens Festival starts as usual in Castle d’Ursel with a stripped-down program tailored to two remarkable guests. We embrace youth with pianist Marie François and horn player Artur Kim Andrade. They are the proof that ‘classical’ is alive and kicking. Marie François opens the concert with Papillons op. 2 by Schumann, the story of a masked ball, completely in its place in the historic vestibule of the castle. Artur Kim Andrade shines in the third horn concerto by Mozart in an arrangement for string quartet. In alternating lineups of the Walter Boeykens Ensemble and these young talents, a wonderful concert unfolds around both works, including Quartet op. 1 for clarinet, violin, cello, and piano by Walter Rabl. www.marie-francois.com
