Isabelle Durand Exposition Tout Public Chez Isabelle Durand, painting, notebooks, and sculptures all proceed from the same instinctive, free, and experimental movement. Everything often begins with an encounter with material: objects gleaned during walks, fragments of daily life, artistic and literary references, memories of nature or childhood. These elements nourish a sensitive imagination that is then transformed into plaster, clay, paper, or color. Sculpture remains the anchor of this approach. Her small assemblages, which she willingly calls her "bricolages" (DIY projects), extend a joy of making with one's hands, almost childlike, where the found object becomes a relic, a poetic form, or a trace of an inner narrative. It is from there that painting gradually emerged: as if color had called to the canvas, and as if sculpture had led her toward another space of gesture and layering. In her paintings, often created on unstretched canvas, Isabelle Durand moves forward without a fully fixed plan. Acrylic washes are superimposed, drip, cover each other, or let furtive details appear. The accident, far from being erased, becomes a step in the process. Indigo, the color of repentance and covering, acts as a revealer. Windows remain open in the material, letting one see the memory of the canvas, its hesitations, its strata, and its emergences. The notebooks extend this research into a more intimate and daily space. Inks, oil pastels, traces of fingers or brushes compose a free laboratory there, where forms and motifs emerge gradually. Through these three practices, Isabelle Durand celebrates the unexpected: an instinctive, jubilant creation, almost childlike in its freedom, but traversed by a true inner quest.
