In the dusty setting of a timeless bureaucracy, everything seems to be regulated by mechanical gestures, absurd forms, stamps, filing systems, and procedures whose meaning no one really knows anymore. Here, the machine runs, relentless, even when it produces nothing but waiting, obedience, and emptiness. With its physical humor, outrageous characters, and perfectly oiled comedic mechanics, the show reveals the most absurd aspects of bureaucracy: rules that replace thought, acronyms that take the place of values, and protocols that crush individuals. We laugh at this grotesque administration, but this laughter reveals a deeper question: how can one find their place, their desire, and their freedom in a system that reduces everyone to a function? It is within this mechanism that Les Burelain.e.s introduces the question of gender. Behind the apparent neutrality of offices, regulations, and hierarchies, the female characters clash with implicit expectations, stereotypes, and very real power dynamics. Mademoiselle Buchon, a young Burelaine determined to make her mark, comes to shake up the established order, while other figures reveal the invisible tasks, thwarted ambitions, or subtle violence of the professional world. True to a popular, inventive, and intelligent theater, the Compagnie Joker makes the absurd a critical tool. Les Burelain.e.s thus extends the universe of the Burelains by adding a contemporary reading of inequalities: beneath the piles of files and dusty regulations, an entire society is revealed, with its automatisms, dominations, and contradictions.
