Inside Jazz invites

Acclaimed actor Josse De Pauw joins forces with drummer Eric Thielemans and composer-pianist Kris Defoort to explore the ground-breaking work of poet E.E. Cummings. Josse De Pauw is accompanied and supported by exploratory percussion, stuttering grooves and Eric Thielemans’ melodic drumming, while Kris Defoort alternates between composition and improvisation. Three unique voices that perform, explore and sing introvertedly yet expressively. Out of the ordinary! Cummings and goings is performed as a concert in which each performer wears headphones. The result is an introspective yet intense listening experience: musically layered and intense, without any explicit interpretation in the performance. It’s as if the audience were allowed to be present in the intimate setting of a recording session. MiXMONK Supreme With MiXMONK Supreme, MiXMONK – the leading trio comprising drummer Joey Baron, pianist Bram De Looze and saxophonist Robin Verheyen – delves into the trailblazing body of work by saxophone legend John Coltrane. What began as a tribute to Thelonious Monk to mark his centenary has grown into a lasting and dynamic collaboration between two leading figures of the Belgian jazz scene and an iconic American jazz drummer. Their first two albums, MiXMONK (2019) and On The Loose (2022), combined original compositions with bold interpretations of Monk’s music and were met with critical acclaim. They dazzled the audience at Leuven Jazz 2024 in a sold-out Schouwburg theatre. This time, the trio is marking the 100th anniversary of John Coltrane’s birth by delving deep into the timeless body of work of this innovator, whose musical influence has resonated for generations. With MiXMONK Supreme, MiXMONK pays tribute to the roots of jazz whilst the musicians simultaneously look to the future. In addition, the trio will be celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2027.
