Leietheater is setting up the film screen in the garden again for a relaxing film night from a beach chair under the starry sky. Bring a filled cooler with drinks and snacks, provide appropriate clothing, and enjoy a good film on this sultry summer evening. Welcome to jarDeins! Hamnet, from the Academy Award-winning writer/director Chloé Zhao, tells the powerful love story that formed the inspiration for Shakespeare’s timeless masterpiece Hamlet. The film shows the family life of William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes Hathaway as they try to deal with the loss of their 11-year-old son Hamnet. Winner of two Golden Globes for Best Drama Film and Beste Actrice in a drama film! Jessie Buckley also deservedly won the Oscar for Beste Actrice.  At its core, ‘Hamnet’ with Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley is an unadulterated melodrama, but one of the most sublime level. HUMO’s film critic Erik Stockman watched ‘Hamnet’ in the cinema and lost his heart to Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley: ‘How beautiful it is, in these tough times, in which the cultural sector is under heavy pressure, to see a film again that, like a glimmering light in the darkness, shows that art has the power to offer life-saving comfort.’  ★★★★ - in Humo The sorrowful ‘Hamnet’ by Chloé Zhao is more than speculation about the drama that befell Shakespeare  ★★★★ - in De Standaard A stylish, strongly acted film.  - in De Tijd With eyes still full of mischief, Paul Mescal gives shape to a roguish, later withdrawn bard. But it is Jessie Buckley, known from The Lost Daughter and soon to be seen in the rebellious The Bride!, who, as Agnes, runs away with this emotional buoy about grief that cannot be contained. Her performance is as inescapable as the fate that befalls her. ★★★★ - in De Standaard
