At the beginning of 2020, Canticum Novum was founded. It is a men's choir consisting of former singers of the famous Aalsterse Knapen and Mannenkoor Schola Cantorum Cantate Domino.
It originated in the context of the 60th anniversary of Cantate Domino in 2019. The founder of the choir, Eerwaarde Kanunnik Michaël Ghijs, was a great source of inspiration for the singers of Canticum Novum who all taught them to discover the love of music.
Besides religious music, virtually all genres are covered. The pleasure of being together and singing together is central.
The choir is conducted by Andries De Winter.
Since the very creation of Canticum Novum, the singers have been rehearsing weekly in the singing classroom of the Sint Maarteninstituut in Aalst. Every singer attended school there in the past. The singers and the conductor are therefore extremely grateful to be able to rehearse again and again in "their" small college!
