Ivan Pecnik is what they say in French: Un touche-à-tout (a jack-of-all-trades).
You might know him from TV: All in, Sarah, Tegen De Sterren Op, and numerous Flemish fiction series.
Or from theater: Farcetheater, Sven De Ridder Company, Backstage Producties, and his own productions, to be seen in the Vlaamse Culturele Centra.
Recently you could also see him in the feature film “De Diefte”.
In addition, he is involved in numerous musical projects such as “De Grungblavers”, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra (5 productions), and he also released a self-written music performance about Antonin Dvorák with the Desguin Quartet.
But his passion for jazz, which he can fully display in 2POP, together with his companion Peter Verbraken, brings them to ’t Landhuys van Leeuwergem.
Peter Verbraken is a master guitarist who took private lessons from jazz icon Joe Pass. He taught at the conservatories of Ghent and Antwerp and at the Antwerpse Jazz studio. In his rich career, he has accompanied Adamo, Shirley Bassey, Randy Crawford, Michel Legrand, Wim Mertens, Toots Tielemans, and Rob de Nijs. For more than 25 years, he has accompanied Jo Lemaire.
Musically, you are in good hands with these two “pops”. 2POP is a project that started because Peter and Ivan are convinced that there is too much POP and too little jazz being played, and in addition to the classic jazz repertoire, they also bring a number of pop songs that they “jazz up”.
With piano, guitar, and vocals, you can enjoy a very personal take on songs you will certainly recognize, as well as some unknown gems during this evening.
The whole thing is interspersed with funny and poignant stories from the music world.
“Without music, life would be a mistake.” (Nietzsche)
