Josef Suk (1874-1935) Meditation, op. 35a Leoš Janáček (1854-1928) String Quartet No. 2 "Intimate Letters Josef Suk and Leoš Janáček, both Czech composers of the early 20th century, illustrate here two contrasting aesthetics. La Méditation de Suk falls under an internalized post-romanticism, nourished by an ancient chorale and imbued with spirituality. Conversely, Janáček's Quartet No. 2 deploys a fragmented language marked by expressive tension and great formal freedom.
