For little viewers with big eyes Where does our imagination go when we get older? No idea, but watching Alexander Vantournhout, we can only conclude one thing: it never goes away. We see dancer Miguel do Vale here in a Mona Lisa hoodie. With an umbrella with Magritte clouds. Or in clogs with a Mondrian motif. A strange creature shuffles onto the white dance floor... what is it? And what are we actually seeing here? In Met Souvenirshop, Alexander Vantournhout dives for the first time into a world for little viewers with big eyes. The dancer drapes and transforms garments from the choreographer's souvenir collection: armholes appear in unexpected places, a head appears on a knee, two feet become four. Arms become legs, hands become claws, a body gets two heads. The familiar becomes strange. The strange becomes enchanting. Besides body origami, there is also music: Beethoven, Bach, and Brahms, played just a little bit differently by pianist Sarshar Ghozat. Acrobatics, dance, magic tricks, sudden twists - and then the cloud umbrella slides like a real cloud against the sky, past surrealism. Theaterkrant called it "a cheerful beauty." A four-year-old next to the reviewer called it "the weirdest dance ever." Who is right? Both!
