Drop-in tour: More than you see. Gender, queer, and sexuality stories

In almost every museum room of the Groeningemuseum you will find works of art that touch on gender, sexuality, and identity. Yet that story is rarely explicitly told. During this guided tour, an experienced museum guide takes you along surprising and forgotten stories. What you discover in this guided tour Our society is becoming increasingly diverse and inclusive, and themes surrounding gender, sexuality, and orientation are gaining more visibility today. But what was it like back then? And how were bodies and identities that did not fit within 'the norm' viewed in the past? In almost every museum room of the Groeningemuseum you will find works of art with a link to what we call “queer” today. Yet that perspective is only rarely explicitly named. During this guided tour you will discover how artists have been inspired for centuries by themes surrounding gender, desires, and relationships, and how social norms and taboos are reflected in art. After this guided tour you will look at the museum collection with a completely different perspective – and at the stories about body, love, and sexual identity throughout time.
