Book club: "Divas" by Martine Delvaux

Many authors parade at Passa Porta. What if we made an appointment to read in detail and exchange around one of their books? From a book, you will be led to exchange on your impressions, to enrich your sensitive experience thanks to the reading of extracts and to evoke other readings, but also films, series, music. An invitation to transform an individual reading into a collective experience, to widen the spectrum and to ricochet together… The sessions take place in the early evening, in the small friendly lounge of Passa Porta. First episode : Divas de Martine Delvaux (invited to Passa Porta on 22/09). Neither novel, nor biography, nor essay, Divas is an investigation, sensitive and ample, on these star singers who made their voice resonate in a patriarchal world and who paid the price. Around the flagship figure of Nina Simone, it is soon Maria Callas, Barbara, Céline Dion, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse who appear and are superimposed on Martine Delvaux herself. Because alongside biographical anecdotes and an investigation into ambition and creation in the feminine, it is also a reflection on writing in the making that Martine Delvaux delivers before our eyes. Louise Chennevière About the author Martine Delvaux is a Quebec woman of letters, novelist and essayist. Professor of literature in Montreal, she has notably published Thelma, Louise et moi (eds. Héliotrope), Le monde est à toi (eds. Les Avrils), Pompières et Pyromanes (eds. Les Avrils), Le Boys club (eds. Payot). In 2024, Ça aurait pu être un film (eds. Héliotrope) was selected for the Médicis essay prize. The book club having the vocation to discuss a book in a small group, the session takes place in the absence of the author. About the moderator Oxyne Vercammen spends a lot of time distilling books, notably at the library where she works. Since 2024, she has been hosting "Ricocher", a format of literary meetings that wish to give the floor to the actors of the book world.
