Are today’s migration pacts a continuation of colonial-era deals? In July 2023, the European Union signed a much-discussed migration deal with Tunisia. An agreement that was supposed to be a win-win for both parties. But who really stands to gain? Is Europe, through this deal, funding the suffering and death of thousands of people fleeing their homes? Why are critical voices regarding the agreement being silenced in Tunisia? Or is the deal, in fact, a courageous response to major social challenges in Europe? Whose dignity is at stake when migration deals are made? And who bears the brunt of the humiliation? Everyone has an opinion on migration. You too. In his latest show, Dignity, director Chokri Ben Chikha establishes a Tunisian dignity commission in exile. Artists, academics and citizens assert their truth about migration and human rights. Inspired by the South African Truth Commission, the stage becomes a place where witnesses and commission members share their stories, doubts and truths through words, images and song.
