Their music starts from improvisation and rhythm, moving between electric jazz, groove, punk energy, and experimental music. The musicians' different cultural backgrounds form an important part of the group's sound. Afro-Caribbean influences from Panama, Balkan rhythms from Serbia, and Mediterranean melodic sensibilities from Greece come together in music that is constantly in motion. These elements are used as material for interaction, development, and spontaneous creation. The project began in 2023 as a trio with guitarist Manos Barkatsas, drummer Aleksandar Škorić, and guitarist/bassist Giotis Damianidis. After concerts in Brussels and Crete, a strong musical interplay grew, characterized by attentive ensemble playing, intensity, and an open approach to improvisation. In 2024, trumpeter Aquiles Navarro joined the group. His playing adds a distinct melodic voice to the electric sound palette and strengthens the dynamics and direction of the music. The quartet has since recorded two studio sessions in Studio Grez in Brussels for a debut album and undertook a first tour through the Balkans. Those experiences confirmed their reputation as a tight live band with a unique sound. Live, the Navarro / Barkatsas / Damianidis / Škorić Quartet brings music that is energetic, layered, and direct. Improvisation plays a central role, but always from a strong collective focus.
