Jeroen Olyslaegers - De Spoken van de Wonderen A literary-musical séance by Jeroen Olyslaegers, Nikkie van Lierop, and Thomas Boodts Op based on the novel De Wonderen, we bring a play of read text, singing, and piano music. De Spoken of Wonders is about Amandine and Ambrose who are born as twins in an Antwerp banking environment at the end of the nineteenth century. They are born under the sign of freedom and each tries to acquire it. De Spoken of Wonders takes you to spiritualist meetings, brothel visits, and a hardly innocent debutante ball. The decadent, at least somewhat tired perfume of a fin-de-siècle greedy for gold blows towards you. Les chansons de Bilitis van Debussy and with texts by Pierre Louÿs is performed and sung by a not-really-innocent-anymore nymph who has fathomed the world of love. A pianist explores the esoteric depth of Satie who lets himself be taken in tow by writer and mystic Josephin Péladan. This will be a séance on a stage. It is a performance that is out for enchantment, hardly bearable intimacy, and a desire for resistance. Jeroen reads. Nikkie sings. Thomas plays piano. De Spoken dance.
