The recent events in the Verenigde Staten have set soprano Astrid Stockman thinking. With her musician's glasses, she sees a country with a rich and fascinating history, which does not always correspond to the image we see now. That is why she wants to take us on a musical trip through the country, told by those who have given it so much color.
The journey leads from the beloved songs from ‘The Great American Songbook’ to folk, Broadway, crooners, jazz, and much more. In between, Astrid tells wonderful stories from the musical treasure chest at her piano and touches on themes that perhaps turn out not to be so far from our bed as we think ourselves. Rediscover this country together with her via catchy melodies, timeless choruses, and hidden pearls. For those curious about what a country really tells when you listen to what it sings.
Astrid Stockman is a classically trained singer and pianist. Since her studies, she has grown into a versatile performer who also dares to deviate from the classical path and likes to think outside the boxes. She is moreover a maker with a mission: to bring classical music to people who normally have little contact with it.
Thanks to her participation in ‘De Slimste Mens Ter Wereld’ in 2019, where she became a finalist, she became known throughout Flanders. Afterwards, she could also be seen as a permanent pianist and singer in ‘Vive Le Vélo’ (2020), in De Verraders (2024), and in ‘Ik Vraag het Aan’ (2024). All these passages gave her the chance to be able to fulfill her mission even better.
