For this new production, Tutti Fratelli draws inspiration from the poetic world of Nick Cave and his companions. The production takes its inspiration from And the Donkey Saw the Angel, Cave’s first book, originally written as a film script. ENGEL tells the story of a deformed boy who is cast out by a strict religious community because he is different. Banished to the edge of the world, he takes refuge in his imagination — driven by revenge, but equally by a deep longing for love, beauty and poetry. Within that same community lives an enchantingly beautiful girl, regarded by everyone as the chosen one. She too is different, but whilst she is glorified, he is cast out. And yet — she is the only one who truly sees him. ENGEL is a musical tale of exclusion and longing, of darkness and light, and of the power of being seen. A pitch-black romantic comedy and a moving ode to being different. Director: Nico Sturm
