Johnny Burgin feat. Steven De bruyn

Fri, 19 Jun 2026 · 18:30
Hnita-Hoeve, Heist-op-den-Berg
€11–22
De Hnita Jazz Club welcomes a genuine Chicago bluesman once again: Johnny Burgin returns to Heist-op-den-Berg — this time with none other than harmonica virtuoso Steven De bruyn as a special guest. For those who remember: Johnny Burgin previously stood on our stage together with the legendary Tail Dragger Jones. That was an evening of pure, unfiltered Chicago blues — intense, soulful, and straight from the heart. The fact that he is stopping in the Hnita Jazz Club again says a lot: artists with a true blues soul find their home here. With his latest album 'Ramblin' from Coast to Coast' (2024), Burgin confirms his reputation as an international blues nomad. The record is a musical journey through different cities, styles, and collaborations — from raw Chicago shuffle to more rootsy, acoustic influences. The album breathes authenticity: tight guitar work, honest vocals, and a deep anchoring in tradition. Burgin built his career in the clubs of Chicago and the juke joints of the southern US. He shared posters and stages with blues legends like Pinetop Perkins, Sam Lay, Billy Boy Arnold, and of course Tail Dragger. His style is not nostalgia — it is living blues, played with craftsmanship and fire. Live, Johnny Burgin is known for razor-sharp, dynamic guitar solos, swinging Chicago grooves, honest interaction with the audience, and respect for tradition. That Dat Steven De bruyn is on stage as a special guest makes this evening extra special. De bruyn knows the Hnita audience well: he was here before with El Fish and in a duo with Jasper Hautekiet, and he played together with Roland Van Campenhout at the start of the current anniversary season of the Hnita Jazz Club. His characteristic, expressive harmonica sound — raw, adventurous, and rooted in blues and roots — forms the perfect dialogue with Burgins Chicago guitar. Expect an evening where American tradition and Belgian class meet. No frills, no pose — real blues. As it should be. As it has sounded in Hnita since 1955. With: Johnny Burgin (vocals, guitar), Steven De bruyn (vocals, harmonica), Little Boogie Boy (vocals, guitar), Jaska Prepula (bass guitar), Mikko Peltola (drums).
