Two anthropological chefs from the future land on the theater square and invite you to help cook at the Endless Stew. It is the year 2127 and this traveling stew has been kept boiling for 100 years in a talking pressure cooker with everything we consider surplus. Een Endless Stew or circular stew is a dish that keeps simmering endlessly. Every time it is eaten from, new ingredients must be added. It is a mix of past, present, and future that come together in a steaming plate of stew.
Met Endless Stew create Bas Vanderschoot and Anouk Friedli a culinary performance about food waste; a circular ritual where they reflect together with the audience on the history and future of food waste. In the capacity of two anthropological chefs, they tell from the future about the now. Full of infectious amazement, they sketch an absurd picture of how 21st-century humans dealt with food. They tell that there was a large food market on the theater square here 100 years ago. That there was food in abundance, but also waste and scarcity. Based on the circular stew, they fantasize about a sustainable recipe for the future. Which ingredients do we add and which do we leave out?
Bring a leftover from your fridge and add it to the endless stew, that is immediately your entrance ticket for the performance.
