Predikheerlijke Summer: Chris Joris Quartet

For his performance at the Predikheerlijke Zomer, Chris Joris chose his quartet with Firas Al Alwani, Bram Weijters, and Christophe Devisscher this time. Firas Al Alwani began his musical education at the music academy of Damascus (Syria), where he followed his first clarinet lessons. After moving to Belgium, he continued his studies at the music academy of Lokeren with Anne Boeykens and Sabine Uytterhoeven. In 1998, he became a laureate with a first prize at the Dexia Muziekwedstrijd. He subsequently obtained a Master in classical music at the Conservatorium van Antwerpen, where he studied with Walter Boeykens, Raymond Dils, and Ivo Lybeert. As a freelance musician, he contributed to numerous renowned orchestras, including the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the La Monnaie, De Vlaamse Opera, the Vlaams Radio Orkest, Prima La Musica, European Philharmonia, and various other ensembles. Driven by a growing fascination for jazz and improvisation, Firas obtained a master's degree in Jazz and Lichte Muziek in 2009 with Kurt Van Herck, also at the Conservatorium van Antwerpen. Since then, he has been active in various jazz formations and continues to profile himself as a versatile musician. Firas can also be heard on multiple music recordings, film scores, and music albums.
