Burning Down the House - CLUB M, Brussels Jazz Orchestra & DJ Grazzhoppa and others
Thu, 13 May 2027 · 20:30
Stadhuis, Mortsel
€15–22
Mel Ross, Deco Comprehension & Monique Harcum address themes with their sharp texts that every young person struggles with sometimes but does not always dare to name:
from fakeness on social media and racism to the importance of (daring) to be yourself.
DJ Grazzhoppa challenges the young people to go in search of the sound of their
environment. How does the classroom, the bus ride to school, or the neighborhood where they live sound? The
samples they collect give voice to the thoughts in their heads.
The musicians of Brussels Jazz Orchestra also take the floor because how can a
drum, saxophone, or trumpet solo musically convey or amplify an emotion.
Young people and big band is not an obvious match, but in Burning Down
the House genre boxes and clichés are set on fire. The musical language of the
jazz orchestra is united with the legendary DJ Grazzhoppa at the turntable, the
jaw-dropping voice of Mo Harcum, and kick-ass MCs Mel Ross & Deco Comprehension.
A performance that hits like a bomb and does not shy away from themes like self-worth, (a)social media,
and expensive self-censorship.
