The Father is a gripping psychological drama about dementia, family ties, and unconditional love. The play shows in a poignant way how difficult it is to say goodbye to someone who is still there, but is nevertheless slowly disappearing.
Eén zee reworks the text by screenwriter and director Florian Zeller, starring Lucas Van den Eynde and Marieke Dilles. The Father was awarded worldwide. The 2020 film version with Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman also enjoyed enormous success.
The once sparkling André also chases away his last home nurse. His daughter Anne sees no other way out than to take her father with dementia into her home. What begins as a loving solution soon puts their relationship under high tension.
André's reality slowly crumbles. Memories fade, and truth and fiction increasingly run into each other. Voor Anne it becomes a painful search: how do you care for someone who recognizes you less and less?
Eén zee is the theater production house of Ann De Winne and Frank Aernout. Previously, their production Thuis was on our stage.
