Home is where your heart lies. But what happens when no one is looking? Do you dance alone in the kitchen, sing out of tune in front of the mirror, or do you sit motionless on the edge of your bed for hours, frozen by the overwhelming world around you? Home is a safe place where no one sees you, far away from the eyes of the world.
‘ROOM’ is a powerful dance and circus performance with one parkour athlete in the intimate setting of a room. To music by Stef Kamiel Carlens, the performance investigates what drives us and sets us in motion. The room becomes the arena for a world of thoughts and feelings that try to get a grip on a society that is not for everyone.
Inspired by their experiences with neurodiversity, makers Kasper Vandenberghe and Matt McCreary show how finding a foothold between order and chaos is a continuous, courageous challenge. ‘ROOM’ is a plea for attention and connection, for desire and hope.
Matt McCreary – born and raised in Northern Ireland – travels ten years from city to city through Europe, developing his parkour skills and unique movement style. He combines dance, theater, slapstick, and visual storytelling in an energetic and compelling way and also inspires a worldwide audience with more than 500,000 followers on Instagram.
