‘What do you do when you are afraid of the one you need?’ Geen Kafka is an intense solo performance (with live music) about the fragile dynamic between a father and a son, inspired by Franz Kafka’s Brief an den Vater. Kafka wrote the letter in an attempt to reach his father and put into words what he did not dare to speak out: his fear, his feeling of falling short, his conviction that he was not a “real Kafka”. A century later, that relationship is re-examined through the lens of today, in a time in which masculinity, leadership, and the role of men (fathers) in upbringing are strongly questioned. The result is Geen Kafka: not a literal Kafka adaptation, but a current, universal confrontation in which the father figure could just as well be yours. Collectief Verlof is known for converting difficult themes into energetic, absurd, and musical performances that make the vulnerable accessible.
