With ‘ik denk dat het ouder heet’, the young theater collective modderspot (Mira Cole, Winter De Cock, Robbe Embrechts, Hanna Mensink & Seppe Somers) creates a theater performance about ‘parenthood’. The players create a musical, funny, and touching world in which the characters search for the ‘ideal’ parent in their imagination. They discover what they really expect from a parent and/or if that perfect parent actually exists. Geert-Jan, Pino, Jacques, Josse, and Gerritje seek parental intimacy and authority. They reflect, protest, fantasize, idealize, and question what 'parent' entails. They give shape to each other's wishes and lack. Gradually, they discover how they have become parents themselves - for themselves, for each other, even for their own parents. They fill the void, see how it forms itself again and again, and find parenthood in unexpected things: in the light, in the dog, the cracks of the couch, the dust that blows up from the vacuum cleaner. With this performance, they also want to offer a safety net, a place for thoughts, a touch, a comfort, and a laugh, for everyone who grows up without a parental figure. ‘Ik denk dat het ouder heet’ is the graduation project of the young theater collective modderspot. They graduated in 2025 from the Conservatorium van Antwerpen.
