Ablaye Cissoko & Cyrille Brotto The one comes from Senegal, the other from the South of France. Together they form an enchanting duo that lets the Mandingo tradition merge with European folk music. Ablaye Cissoko is a master of the kora – the West African double harp – and a storyteller pur sang. His voice carries generations, deeply rooted and full of emotion. Accordeonist Cyrille Brotto is a musical glutton with an irresistible urge for discovery and innovation. What binds them is surrender and musicality of the highest level. Their music vibrates with intimacy and virtuosity, and sounds like a hushed encounter between tradition and innovation. Their new album and performance Djiyo – “water” – form an enchanting musical flow that brings Manding and Occitan traditions together. After almost three years and more than a hundred concerts worldwide, the two virtuosos return with a masterful collaboration in which kora, vocals, and accordion weave an intimate and spiritual soundscape. The music purifies the mind and opens the senses, while the dialogue between both instruments sparkles with poetry, melancholy, and light. Met Djiyo (water) Cissoko and Brotto rediscover their instruments and create a warm, human musical conversation that both hushes and moves. Songlines (UK) previously called their work “a masterful collaboration… a jewel from beginning to end”.
