Diest gets a new music festival: Blues & Roots, a musical journey through the broad landscape of the blues. We leave in the deep south of the USA, where Big Dave & Raf ‘Lazy Horse’ Timmermans evoke the atmosphere of the early lament and gospel songs, inspired by greats like Big Bill Broonzy and Tampa Red. Then we head to the Chicago of the 50s and 60s. Smokestack Charlie guides us through the smoky clubs where the electric blues had its heyday, with echoes of Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson II. We end with a living legend of the British blues scene: Norman Beaker, pioneer of the British blues boom and member of the British Blues Hall of Fame, who shared the stage with icons like Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce. Blues & Roots will be a unique evening full of authentic, honest music. A compelling journey through the history of the blues.
