Le Miracle of Urakawa Exhibition

Le Miracle of Urakawa

Fri, 12 Jun 2026 · 10:00
Escale du Nord (Antenne Scheut), Brussels
In 2019, the artist François Marcadon carried out a residency at the Bethel House institute of Urakawa (Japan), a psychiatric establishment dedicated to innovative therapeutic practices, in which patients and staff mingle without differentiation. Upon his return to Brussels, François wrote a text about this stay and made portraits of patients as well as a series of ink and watercolor drawings evoking their illness, their anxieties. Cultural Le Centre of Anderlecht invites you to discover these works in the exhibition "Le Miracle d'Urakawa". Through his work, François Marcadon explores the relationship between the mind and the body; as for the latter, he examines its vanity and ephemeral character, its plasticity and metamorphic potential, as well as its unconditional finitude – its mortality. His works, of great aesthetic elegance, reveal a disturbing phantasmagorical dimension, unveiling the artist's personal mythology, both dreamlike and ruthless. This project was born thanks to the support of Fédération Wallonie-Brussels and the Équipe asbl.
