Johannes Is Zijn Naam makes Dutch-language dream pop. Met Johannes as a decrepit crooner, singing and dancing between rhythm boxes and synths. With ‘Contact’, his second album, the lonely character from his debut takes a step out of his cocoon, towards the outside world, towards contact. Live, a mixture of music, performance and atmosphere is created in which Johannes shapes his own universe. In the theater, that now gets even more space: movement, word and sound flow effortlessly into each other. The performance ‘Johannes Maakt Contact’ invites you to step into that world: poetic, slightly absurd, sometimes moving. You might know Johannes from his single ‘Johnny Will Be King’. His work is sometimes compared to that of Spinvis and feels like a bizarre cross between David Lynch and Tien Om Te Zien. And yes, his name really is Johannes (Verschaeve).
