The magical-realistic Black Cat, White Cat revolves around two Roma families living on the Danube who are out to get each other. According to one family, an arranged marriage is the solution, while the other family really pulls out all the stops to get out of it. Black Cat, White Cat is not only a hyperactive comedy but above all a beautiful film with magnificent camerawork. Regisseur Emir Kusturica finds the good balance between different emotions, whereby the farce he sets down never becomes flat but always retains a fascinating layering.
