The New Wave

“Sir, that would never happen again now, would it?” The students of history teacher Sam Jans do not believe that people would still let themselves be carried away by totalitarian movements like Nazism today. Sam does not give up and comes up with an experiment. What starts as an innocent lesson about discipline and togetherness grows in a few days into a movement that gets the whole school in its grip. Whoever participates belongs. Whoever hesitates is suddenly alone. The question is no longer how it could have come to this, but whether it can still be stopped. De Nieuwe Golf is a performance for young people and adults, about peer pressure, following the crowd, and the courage to say no. It is based on a true experiment in California in 1969, of which a well-known play and a film have already appeared - required reading in many high schools. We made a completely new version, placed in a contemporary school environment. Toneelvereniging Boven De Berg has been a fixture in Pellenberg since 1985. With this production, our current group of young people leaves children's theater behind and ventures into more serious work. Prepare yourself for a laugh, a tear, and a lot of goosebumps.
