‘What do you do when you are afraid of the one you need?’ Geen Kafka is an intense solo performance (with live music) about the fragile dynamic between a father and a son, inspired by Franz Kafka’s famous Brief an den Vater. A letter he wrote in an attempt to reach his father. To try to put into words what he couldn't get past his lips: that he is afraid of him. That he doesn't feel like a real Kafka. That he is the inevitable result of his upbringing. That he, the father, is simply too strong for him, the son. And that - without speaking of a culprit and a victim - there might still be some recognition? A century after the letter was written, their relationship is re-examined in the light of today, where masculinity, leadership, and the role of men (fathers) in upbringing are strongly debated. ‘Geen Kafka’ therefore, but a universal and topical version in which the father figure could just be yours.
