Through time - Deaf Center

BELGIAN PREMIERE Het Noorse duo Deaf Center consists of old school friends Erik K. Skodvin and Otto A. Totland. Since their debut Pale ravine (2005) - “a haunting homage to the world of David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti” - they have been considered an established name in (post)classical electronic music. The duo's milestone followed in 2011 with Owl splinters, recorded in the studio of Nils Frahm. In 2019, they presented Low distance, a beautiful return to more quiet and minimalist work as on Pale ravine, in CCHA during Nordic night(s). The recently released Through time, once again on the fantastic label Sonic Pieces, confirms the elusive and timeless nature of Deaf Center. Skodvin and Totland gradually move to a more elongated sound, which yields their most compelling listening experience to date. Totland's piano playing follows less frequent rhythms than before, but feels all the more like a relief in the quieter moments that contrast with Skodvin's deep, atmospheric worlds. Deaf Center thus succeeds in bringing the modest into harmony with the grand, where seconds become minutes, hours become days, and time seems to stand still like a moment in a still life.
