Apéro-conference : Brussels, an international crossroads with multiple challenges

Brussels is home to numerous European and international institutions. Attracting a population from all walks of life, the city is also ranked among the most cosmopolitan in the world. These realities create multiple consequences for the organization of the territory and for social dynamics. This lecture explores these different aspects of the city for us. Gilles Van Hamme is a Doctor of Science and Professor of human geography at Université Libre de Bruxelles. He has conducted extensive research on the Brussels economy, and in particular the link between economic and social or socio-spatial dynamics. Gilles Van Hamme is part of his department in more fundamental studies, in the continuity of research conducted in human geography since the 1980s. This research has proposed original theoretical frameworks, as well as the systematic collection of data at the regional level in Europe, since at least the 1980s. This research focuses on two general themes: economic geography at the Brussels, Belgian, European, and global scale, as well as electoral geography, in Europe and in Afrique du Nord.
