The depth in the works of Stefan Hertmans is rarely equaled by writers from our language area.
Our reading circle read his "War and Turpentine", "De Bekeerlinge", and "The Ascent". All three books have roots in the author's personal life. The same goes for "Dius", his latest novel, in which Anton follows in Hertmans' footsteps as an art teacher. A deep friendship grows between the seasoned art connoisseur and Dius, an inspired student: one contemplates, the other creates ART. The mutual love inflicts wounds, leaves its mark on both of them; there is so much loss.
With his latest book, Hertmans opens a true "Paleis van Schone Kunsten", whose works speak to the reader and whose story penetrates page after page. The internet shows the way through this museum.
