No Other Choice

After 25 years of loyal service, Man-su loses his job as a supervisor in a paper factory when it falls into American hands. It soon becomes clear that finding new work is much more difficult than expected, forcing him and his family to drastically adjust their lifestyle. After another failed attempt, Man-su decides to take a more radical approach, determined to emerge as the best candidate at the next job interview. Commentaar Park Chan-wook (Old Boy, The Handmaiden, Decision to Leave) has guaranteed challenging, stimulating top-tier cinema throughout his entire career — and with No Other Choice, it is no different. Black comedy, cinematic feats, and socially critical thriller elements (think: Parasite) all come together in this swirling cocktail of absurdism, revenge, and violence, with the central question being how far we would go when we (think) we have no other choice. The film was already very well received at festivals (it went home with the international audience award at the Toronto film festival), and in the meantime, it also proudly graces the Oscar shortlist for Beste Internationale Film.
