Today - Herman van Veen

Recently ran into someone at the market who looked at me in surprise. “Are you still around?” Had the urge to turn away. We started talking. The man had seen me in the theater in the sixties. He had once emigrated but returned to the Netherlands to be buried in Utrecht in due time. Told him that besides the genetic luck, singing probably ensured that I can still perform about one hundred and forty shows a year with heart and soul. Herman van Veen is a singer, writer, composer, painter, and theater maker. Since making his debut in 1965, he has traveled the world with his performances. He has released about one hundred and eighty CDs, about eighty books, a few dozen plays, and a whole lot of paintings. And at 81 (!) he is still not sung out. For years we have been lucky that van Veen does not forget Hasselt in his busy schedule.
