Geen Kafka is a poignant solo performance with live music about the fragile dynamics between a father and a son, inspired by Franz Kafka’s famous Brief an den Vater. A letter he wrote in an attempt to reach his father. To try to put into words what he could not get over his lips: that he is afraid of him. That he does not feel like a real Kafka. That he is the inevitable result of his upbringing. That he, the father, is simply too strong for him, the son. And that - without speaking of a culprit and a victim - perhaps some recognition can come after all? A century after the writing of the letter, their relationship is re-examined in the light of today, where masculinity, leadership, and the role of men (fathers) in upbringing are strongly debated. Geen Kafka then, but a universal and current version in which the father figure could just be yours. Collectief Verlof is known for turning difficult themes into energetic, absurd, and musical performances. With their disarming, (deceptively) light-footed style, they make the difficult accessible and the painful discussable.
