In preparation for our Kweikersdag, where the various districts of Tienen put their best foot forward, we are doing a few guided walks through some districts this year.
On Sunday, September 6th, it is the turn of the Galgeveld district.
We depart from the Schakel (formerly ’t Kerkske) and walk through the neighborhood that, from the 1960s to the present, has provided a transformation of the fields that fell just outside the ramparts.
With an eye for detail, we discover the surroundings and go back to the Middle Ages and even to the Gallo-Roman habitation of this area around the Galgeveld. Via de Breisemstraat, Schansstraat and Aarschotsesteenweg, we return past the municipal cemetery, Park Passionisten and the Heilig Hartkerk, all of which have an eventful history to tell.
It will be an opportunity for both the residents of these neighborhoods and for all Tienen residents who want to get to know their city better to discover our own past, as well as the present.
Appointment: Sunday, September 6th at 2:00 PM
Departure point: De Schakel – the guides will be on the corner of Veldstraat and Withuisstraat.
