Alex Koo's Kimono Garden (try-out)

Musical chameleon Alex Koo – praised by the Dutch newspaper Trouw as "of the same rare level as Keith Jarrett" and included by DownBeat and De Standaard in their lists of the best records of 2025 – takes a bold new step with his brand-new live project Kimono Garden.\nFour leading voices from the Belgian music scene join forces in a universe of groove and timbres. Expect an organic mix of jazz, neo-soul, electronic music, ambient, and future beats – a sound world that is both playful and compelling, leaving the traditional jazz idiom far behind. Influences drift in from the atmospheres of Flying Lotus, Hiatus Kaiyote, Erykah Badu, Björk, and Thom Yorke, amplified by a hefty dose of experiment, improvisation, and pure stage energy.\nThe band consists of, besides Alex Koo himself, Lorena Del Mar, Andrew Claes – one of the creative forces behind STUFF. and numerous other innovative projects – and Trui Amerlinck, who previously played in the club with NΔBOU, The Great Belgian Songbook, Rosa Butsi, and Ivy Falls.\nIn 2024, Alex Koo visited the Hnita Jazz Club for the first time with his acclaimed trio. We gladly welcome him back for a try-out with Kimono Garden in the run-up to their JazzLab tour in October and November 2026. On the occasion of this tour, an exclusive vinyl reissue of the record “Kimono Garden” will be released, featuring a few new quartet pieces and available exclusively during the concerts: a collector's item that breathes new life into the dreamy, cinematic soundscapes of the original 2020 album, which was only released digitally at the time.
