La Woluwe : the charm of a valley in transition

This visit is organized as part of the Landscapes theme, proposed by Urban.brussels for the year 2026 We will travel through precious ancient heritage landscapes in an area in full urban evolution, greeting the reconquests of spaces for nature and biodiversity, as well as the heritage of large mansions and landscaped parks of the early 20th century. The mutation of ‘urban highways’ has marked this landscape: transformation of the boulevard de la Woluwe, arrival of a new tram line and the green promenade for bicycles and pedestrians, combined with nature-based solutions for water management, the choice of trees, and the way of planting them. The reopening of part of the Woluwe has made it possible to return abandoned fringes to nature, to integrate spontaneous uses by the inhabitants, and to make it the first Brussels project based on eco-engineering principles, with the restoration of the Lindekemale mill channel, its hydraulic system, and its wheel, a heritage trace of the ancient economy.
