Inspired by the cult graphic novel ‘Maus’ by Art Spiegelman, ‘TRAUM’ is the second show by Roeshoofd, the company around Simon De Vos and Lukas Bulteel. For this new creation, they are inspired by the cult graphic novel ‘Maus’ by Art Spiegelman. Simon De Vos wrote a new stage play for this. Siem, a young man in his thirties, is at a crossroads in his life. His career as a theater director is not getting off the ground, his relationship with Lucia is under pressure, and the recognition he desires from his father Garnik is not coming. For his new theater show, Siem decides to record interviews with his father in the hope of finding answers to questions about a complex and painful war past. What follows is a reconstruction in which he tries to find out who he is today, and above all, who he wants to be. By situating the story in an indefinite time and place and using animal masks, ‘TRAUM’ becomes an absurd allegory about a great war between Foxes and Rabbits, a frame story of events driven by music by Tim Vanhamel. ‘TRAUM’ is a search for what traces a beastly past leaves on the generations that come after. Theater FroeFroe creates the animal heads. Geert Van Rampelberg, Lukas Bulteel, Evelien Bosmans and Lotte Valckenaers act. Tim Vanhamel (Millionaire) lays a nostalgic musical blanket over it. The press on ‘Er gaat iemand komen’, the first production by Roeshoofd: Thanks to the meticulous actor direction of De Vos, the real depth in ‘Er gaat iemand komen’ lies between the lines. Every word and every action has been thoroughly thought through. - Jens Dewulf, Etcetera
