Lila Gnawa : Black Koyo & Maâlem Hamid El Kasri

Black Koyo is a collective of singers, musicians and dancers based in Brussels, led by the gnawa master Hicham Bilali. For more than ten years, the group has established itself as a reference of the gnawa scene in Belgium and internationally, making audiences vibrate and dance thanks to the communicative energy of its performances. Heirs to a centuries-old musical tradition born from the trance rituals of Morocco, the artists of Black Koyo transmit with authenticity the richness of the gnawa culture. Carried by the enchanting rhythms of the guembri, ancestral songs and the power of percussion, they offer at each concert an immersive and festive experience. At the crossroads of tradition and contemporary creation, the group explores new musical horizons. Between traditional repertoire, original compositions, modern arrangements and encounters with other artistic universes, Black Koyo constantly renews the expression of gnaoua art while remaining faithful to its roots. Special guest: Maâlem Hamid El Kasri Maâlem Hamid El Kasri is a major figure of gnaoua music, recognized both in Morocco and internationally. Born in Ksar El Kébir in 1961, he discovered this musical heritage very young and developed a personal style that blends the gnaoua traditions of the north and south of Morocco, carried by a powerful and expressive voice. Emblematic artist of the Festival Gnaoua and Musiques du Monde of Essaouira, he has participated in numerous musical creations alongside artists from different horizons, contributing to the influence of gnaoua culture on the international scene. Committed to the preservation and transmission of this art, he is today considered one of the great gnawa masters of his generation.
