Slushwave is a subgenre of Vaporwave, the hyper-online microgenre that has been exploring digital nostalgia for over ten years. Waar Vaporwave pop music and images from the 80s and 90s, Slushwave dives deeper into dreamy ambient soundscapes. Layers of reverb, delay, and phaser create the characteristic “slushy” sound, which evokes feelings of nostalgia, serenity, euphoria, and weightlessness. Slushwave started in 2020 as a one-day livestream and has grown into the most important event of the genre, celebrating the diversity and the community within the scene.
