Martha!tentative (6+)

‘Vreemd Ding’ is an imaginative and musical performance full of comical situations about finding your own voice, for everyone aged 6 and up. A child and her mother live together in a colorful living room with a sofa and a TV. They do everything together: flower arranging, cleaning up, singing songs, the laundry. Day in, day out, because the mother says so. "Follow the rules, especially when you don't understand them." The curious child tries very hard to listen to what is asked of her. But she doesn't understand it. And she loses herself in her imagination more and more often. Until one day, she decides to go exploring on her own. But how do you deal with a world that suddenly feels strange? "In Met Vreemd Ding, I don't want to focus on how we differ from each other, but rather on what we share. When I moved to a foreign country as a child, I thought I had to be a chameleon and constantly adapt. What I want to show children is that you can only truly connect when you dare to be yourself — even with others.” Evgenia Brendes Evgenia Brendes and Bram Coopmans were inspired by the picture books of illustrator and graphic novel writer Shaun Tan. Final direction is in the hands of the illustrator and theater maker Jef van Gestel. The performance premiered in the Netherlands in co-production with HNTjong. Evgenia performs the Belgian tour together with Roel Swanenberg. A performance under the wings of Martha!tentatief.
